My child is out braces, now what?

It's probably been a long road between phase I and phase II orthodontics, monthly visits to the orthodontist and now your child is in retainers to keep the alignment straight. Once your child's braces are removed having a dental cleaning is important to make sure all orthodontic cement has been removed and the health of the gum tissues can be checked. Lets be honest, brushing and flossing with braces on is not easy. Once everything has been cleaned up, this allows the dentist to evaluate the outcome of your child's case.

Sometimes a gingivectomy is recommended for those who have had some gum over growth especially on the upper front teeth. This is done with a laser and its simply removing any unhealthy gum tissue. The procedure is quick and easy and can make a nice looking orthodontic case look fantastic.

Depending on your child's age, once braces come off one simple touch up that can be done to improve the look of your child's overall smile is to have them whiten their teeth. There are different methods of getting your child's teeth whiter after braces. For the different methods available, contact Dr. Sean Anderson's office so together we can figure out the right whitening system for your child.
